What sets the price of a bull bar
Three things account for most of the difference between one bar and the next.
- Style of bar. The RAID Bull Bar is a no-hoop design and usually sits at the lower end. The Deluxe Bull Bar adds a full hoop for more front-end coverage. The APEX Bull Bar is the heavy duty option, built for serious touring and winch use, and sits near the top of the range.
- Vehicle. Every bar is engineered for one specific vehicle, with its own mounting points, airbag sensors, radar and cameras to work around. Newer platforms with more tech up front generally take more engineering.
- Material. Most bars in the range are steel. Aluminium bars, like the RAID MKII on the Toyota Hilux Travo, cost more to produce but save weight over the front axle.

RAID, Deluxe or APEX: which is it?
If most of your driving is town and highway with the odd weekend on gravel, a RAID bar gives you a clean look, front-end protection and a winch mount at the lowest price. If you spend long hours on rural roads at dawn and dusk, the hoop on a Deluxe bar covers more of the grille and headlights. If you are building a vehicle for Botswana, the Kaokoveld or long solo trips, the APEX is designed to carry the heaviest winch and lighting setups and take the most punishment.

Is a bull bar airbag compatible?
A bull bar is only airbag compatible if it has been engineered and tested for your specific vehicle. IRONMAN 4x4 bull bars are developed to Australian Design Rules, including impact testing, so the factory airbags and safety systems can work as the manufacturer intended. Steel or aluminium bull bar: which is better?
Steel bull bars are strong, resistant to animal strikes and easier to repair in the bush, which suits South African rural roads and heavy winching. Aluminium bars are lighter, which helps payload and front suspension, and they do not rust. The trade-off is a higher price. Most IRONMAN 4x4 bars in South Africa are steel, while the RAID MKII for the Hilux Travo is aluminium.
Does a bull bar price include fitment?
No. The prices above include VAT and mounting hardware but exclude fitment. Fitment is quoted by the fitment centre and depends on the vehicle and any extras such as lights, a winch or sensor relocation.
