New Generation Toyota Hilux Travo (2026+): What's Changed, What Stays the Same, and What's Coming
South Africa's best-selling bakkie just moved to a new generation. The ninth-generation Toyota Hilux launched locally in June 2026, and if you've already taken delivery or you're waiting on yours, you're probably already thinking about the build.
Here's what we know about the new Hilux Travo – and what IRONMAN 4x4 Africa now has for it.
A New Generation, Not Just a Facelift
The outgoing Revo served South African owners well for a decade. The new model – known globally as the Hilux Travo – is a genuine generational step, not a mid-cycle refresh. The exterior has been redesigned front and rear with sharper styling and a bold honeycomb grille. The interior has been thoroughly overhauled, with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen on higher-spec derivatives replacing the outgoing 8-inch unit, digital instrumentation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a safety suite that includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.
The flagship Legend grade adds Toyota's 48V mild-hybrid system – an 8.4 kW electric motor generator working alongside the trusted 2.8-litre GD-6 turbodiesel to improve fuel efficiency and low-speed drivability. Standard 2.8 GD-6 derivatives carry over at 150 kW and 500 Nm through the six-speed automatic.
The Platform: Familiar Where It Counts
For aftermarket fitment, the most important news is this: the new Hilux retains the proven IMV ladder-frame platform. The chassis has been revised with new hydraulic engine mounts and shear-type cabin mounts for improved ride refinement, but the fundamental architecture – the dimensions, wheelbase, and load bay – carries over from the outgoing generation.
That's good news for accessory fitment, but it doesn't mean Revo parts automatically fit. The front-end geometry, mounting points, and bumper structure have changed with the redesign. Vehicle-specific development is still essential, and we've been doing exactly that.
What IRONMAN 4x4 has Built for the New Hilux
We've developed a full range of vehicle-specific accessories for the 2026 Hilux, including:
Suspension – IM2.5 Monotube, Foam Cell Pro, Foam Cell, and Nitro Gas kits engineered for the revised front-end geometry and updated chassis mounts, including upper control arms for correct alignment under lift (included in IM2.5 kits)
Bull bars – APEX, and Deluxe configurations with integrated rated recovery points, winch mounting provisions, and full airbag compliance for the new front structure.
Underbody protection – heavy-gauge steel bash plates covering the sump, diff and transfer case, designed around the revised IMV chassis.
Recovery points – rated front extraction points that come with the Bull Bars.
Drawer systems – load-rated mixed-height / full-height configurations to suit the Hilux's unchanged load bay dimensions.
What About the Revo?
If you're running a Revo, nothing changes. The Revo range stays on the road for years to come, and IRONMAN 4x4 Africa continues to support it fully. The new Hilux page and the Revo page are separate for exactly this reason – your build, your accessories, your fitment data.
